Rosco Flamex Barrier FR Barrier Fire Retardant Paint is an easy to use paint designed to insure that your hard scenery, staging and other scenic materials will meet local requirements and satisfy your health and safety inspectors. Flamex FR is a zero-VOC, water based, vinyl-acrylic, intumescent paint, that provides a Class A fire retardant rating when properly applied to most common materials used in scenery, props and staging. When subjected to the initial heat and flames of a growing fire, the paint rapidly expands into a dense char to form a barrier that raises the ignition temperature of the substrate, which inhibits the spread of the fire. Rosco Flamex FR Barrier has been tested to ASTM E84 standards and achieves a Class A rating; meeting the stringent fire retardant requirements of most commercial building codes. This makes Flamex FR suitable for use in productions that need scenic pieces or staging installed downstage of the fire-curtain, or on touring shows & exhibitions that will go into a wide variety of venues and cities - with differing regulations and requirements. Barrier FR is also appropriate for use on scenic elements installed into tradeshow & expo booths, permanently installed into museum exhibits or other public spaces. Available in black and white, Rosco Flamex FR can be applied as any other high quality latex paint using a brush, roller or sprayer and it can be diluted up to 10% with water to adjust its viscosity. Two coats are recommended to achieve the minimum dry film thickness of 6 mil. Thicker coatings proportionally will increase the rate of fire protection up to a 15 mil dry film. Rosco Barrier FR is suitable as a back paint, a finish coat or may be painted over with compatible scenic paints and clear coats. Rosco Off Broadway or Supersaturated Paints may be added to tint the Barrier FR as a base coat. The product is available in 1 gallon and 5 gallon pails, as well as 55 gallon drums.
